Peanut Butter Breakfast Shake

by Meri on March 30, 2012

As I was perusing pinterest the other day I found this recipe from some of my favorite colleagues, The Meal Makeover Moms. It jumped out at me because of an ingredient I’ve come to love… peanut butter. Having three toddlers the same age I’ve gotten a chance to see how very different children can be with their eating habits. Birdie is adventurous, Mr. is particular (no mixing foods or you’ll be in big trouble) and Tiny is one very picky eater. In all fairness, part of her issues are biological. She has what’s called a choanal atresia, which basically means she has a membrane closing off one of her nostril openings affecting her sense of smell and taste. I’m incredibly grateful she doesn’t have full blown food aversions, but some days are challenging as she has very few items she’ll eat and she’s not great at trying new foods.

Protein is our biggest challenge. She won’t eat any type of animal protein nor will she eat eggs, soy, beans, or even quinoa. My saving grace is that other than yogurt, there is one protein food that happens to be her all time favorite food (other than sweets). Tiny loves peanut butter. She enjoys eating it on sandwiches, crackers, pancakes, cookies (of course), plain on a spoon and now…in smoothies!

I tried this recipe the other day and it was a big hit with all three so I’m excited to add another peanut butter recipe to our list! Thank you to Janice and Liz for another great recipe!
